Poetry can be an acquired taste for some people, a type of love-hate relationship. I was always the odd one who loved poetry and prided myself on understanding the deeper meanings some of the authors were trying to incorporate. As time went on, poetry took the back burner to my life. When I had spare time to explore the newest publications in literature, I usually stuck to novels. Due to the universality of its themes, it appeals to readers everywhere and addresses issues that all women can relate to. I decided to read the book this past month, completely unprepared for what it was truly about. She purposefully writes in lowercase as a way to honor her culture by paralleling Gurmukhi script.

Each page is characterized by a poem with a complementary illustration. Kaur is a Canadian poet, writer and illustrator of Indian descent. The 25 year old self-published her book in The book is short, but contains a very strong message. The sensitive topics covered, such as sexuality and abuse, reflect her own experiences with these concepts as well as provide advice for how her audience should handle them.

In my humble opinion this honfy is composed of extremely beautifully written lines but there are very few poems actually. Overview Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival.   1. Rather than focusing on the rhyming words, nad just try to put their thoughts in the form of few short sentences. I love her bluntness when discussing issues such as abuse and objectification. Her vision of herself as an icon of diversity against hostile gatekeepers of literary prestige is evident. This is a different kind of theme which I really liked.🤯
