Industrial Instrumentation and Control Systems | BookBy Jonathan M. Pinto, Ian B. Gomes, Pedro L. Furieri and Paulo F. The objective of this chapter is to discuss two approaches for reliability analysis of digital instrumentation and control systems in nuclear power plants taking into account the regulatory side. These case studies involve simplified control systems for a steam generator and a pressurizer of a Pressurized Water Reactor PWR plant for the purpose of evaluating each method. Advantages and limitations of each approach are addressed.

Instrumentation and control engineering ICE is a branch of engineering that studies the measurement and control of process variables , and the design and implementation of systems that incorporate them. Process variables include pressure , temperature , humidity , flow , pH , force and speed. ICE combines two branches of engineering. Instrumentation engineering is the science of the measurement and control of process variables within a production or manufacturing area. Control engineers are responsible for the research, design, and development of control devices and systems, typically in manufacturing facilities and process plants.
