May Bird Books by Jodi Lynn Anderson from Simon & SchusterYou've done it again! This sounds so good. I really want to read these. You find the most interesting books I haven't even heard of before. Thanks, Nicola! One of my favorite things about working in the children's department of my library is getting to look at all the new books that come in, hot off the truck. It's like Christmas every day!

The author very much needs her own website I think. May is becoming the hero she always was but just did not know it, she and her friends encounter all sorts of places and ghosts. Along the way, Can't wait to read the next and concluding book in the series. Did you ever write a book.
Her life gets even stranger when she receives a mysterious letter and map "We apologize for the danger you will endure, but we eagerly await your arrival should you survive it, as we are in great need of your help" and begins to see ghosts. May leaves home, following the map's directions to a lake which turns out to be a portal to the Ever After , and embarks on a bizarre and treacherous journey. Unfortunately, the ambitious plot leads to an overcrowded series of events and characters that keep the book from jelling completely, and familiar story elements a prophecy, magical helpers, an all-knowing oracle, a chosen one are derivative rather than fresh. Readers will relish the idiosyncratic humor and nonconformist May Bird's development from outcast to heroine, however, and those who do plunge in for the adventure with May will enjoy the ride—and look forward to the promised future voyages. Eerie black-and-white spot illustrations and a map of the Ever After accompany the text.
